  • peace education in local schools to help students explore issues of diversity and tolerance – especially in response to the recent gang violence at and around the schools
  • run conflict management, leadership and diversity management workshops for community leaders to address conflicts in their streets and area committees – especially in regard to recent immigrants
  • women in peacebuilding workshops and women’s issues
  • to Election Monitoring and Observation Work, including researching and publishing pamphlets in preparation of the 2019 Elections
  • building leadership, conflict management, and entrepreneurial skills with church leadership


Dan and Kathryn will also be providing support to:

Grace Community Church, a Mennonite World Conference affiliated denomination with headquarters in Philipstown, Northern Cape, and Bethany Bible School, centered in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, which has provided biblical and leadership training to African-Initiated Churches for over two decades. The Smith Derksens, with SADRA, will bring conflict transformation and crisis management trainings to these two communities.  They will also partner with Anabaptist Network in South Africa, a joint venture started in 2009 to provide resources and collaboration opportunities for those interested in the Anabaptist tradition.
